Taxi booking app development

A taxi or cab booking platform is really three products: a rider app, a driver app and an admin panel that ties them together with live maps and payments. We design and build all three, and help you decide what your first version actually needs.

The three parts

What a taxi platform is made of

Rider app

Pickup and drop selection on a map, fare estimate, live driver tracking, in-app payment, trip history and ratings.

Driver app

Online/offline status, ride requests with accept or decline, turn-by-turn navigation handoff, earnings and document upload.

Admin panel

Driver approval, fare and surge rules, zones, live ride monitoring, payouts, complaints and reports.

Version one

What to include in your first release

  • Phone number login with OTP
  • Booking now and scheduled rides
  • Fare calculation by distance and time
  • Cash and one online payment method
  • Live tracking for rider and admin
  • Push and SMS notifications
  • Basic ratings and support contact
Ride sharing, corporate accounts, wallets and multi-city pricing can follow once the core flow works with real drivers.

How we'd build it

Real-time by design

Cross-platform rider and driver apps, a Node.js back end with WebSockets for live location, a Laravel or React admin panel, and Google Maps or a similar provider for routing and geocoding. Maps and SMS are usage-billed, so we estimate running costs alongside the build cost.

Project considerations

What drives the cost of a taxi app

  • Number of apps: three apps cost more than one; some operators start with rider and admin, and drivers on a simple web view.
  • Maps usage: map loads, routing and distance calls are billed per request and grow with rides.
  • Pricing rules: flat fares are simple; surge, zones and tolls add logic and testing.
  • Payments and payouts: split payments to drivers need a gateway that supports them.

FAQ

Taxi app questions

Can we launch in one city first?

Yes, and we recommend it. Zones and city settings are built in so you can add cities later without rebuilding.

Do we need separate rider and driver apps?

Usually yes, because the screens and permissions are very different. Both can share one codebase and back end.

Planning a taxi or cab app?

Tell us your city, fleet size and how drivers are paid. We'll suggest a first release and estimate build and running costs.
